Our Personal family of products is designed to cover these scenarios in the most cost-effective manner possible.

About Drives
If there is a single primary drive backed up, as is the case with our Personal Computer product, we can offer our lowest price. This account is build to backup a personal computer with a single drive. Although data usage can be high with home computers, the lower complexity of the data allows us to store it more efficiently and so costs remain low with all our Personal Computer account.

About Versions

Our software checks for file changes continually. When you save a file we detect it and copy it to our servers. The difference between how you save it and how we save it is this: you keep only the new version saved, but we keep both the newly saved version and all previous ones.

This is invaluable if a file is corrupted or attacked by a virus. You can rescue an earlier version of the file, usually with minimal loss of information. However, keeping every new version doubles, triples, quadruples etc. the amount of data saved on our servers with each version.

What about our Personal Computer makes it so cost-effective?

It backs up unlimited data on one drive, the C: (or primary) drive. The data is less complex to store and restore than business data, which allows us to offer our lowest price.

Versions are saved for 60 days. This keeps the data size from multiplying too large (see About Versions), while still giving users the security of versioning.

Basic accounts also have an automatic setup that restricts certain file types and directories by default. The max individual file size that can be saved is 5GB. These restrictions should not impact home users and they make the low cost of this account possible. In special cases users can always make a request to back up any file type by contacting Support.
